Oh, collage...my one true love! Landscape and the body and the body as landscape...this is the beautifully collaged work of artist Erin Case. Currently based in Michigan, (Midwest represent!) she creates her wonderful limbs and lands through both analogue and digital methods. Most of my favorite work of hers is actually created through the good old cut-and-paste method, with the exception of her Haircut series (which include the last two collages) which I absolutely adore.
The palette of her collages are so perfect! The desaturated and muted colors make the landscapes look so unfamiliar, like different worlds. Combine that with bodies with unattached parts and hidden faces, Case creates a truly alien environment. The collage that is the strangest to me is the middle piece that includes just two hands holding a sphere...what ecosystem could that possibly be from? Case has created countless more serene, otherworldly collages that are definitely work checking out!
