Sticking with the theme of unconventional, bizarre, mounted animal heads, check out the amazing work of Portland, Oregon based artist AJ Fosik. These complex and layered sculptures are made simply from paint, wood, and nails. The psychedelic colors, exploding patterns, and crazy-eyed creatures create something between a terrifying animal and a magic, rainbow deity.
Originally from the midwest, Fosik's work can now be found in galleries in New York City, San Francisco, and Paris. He has also been in a huge number of publications including one of my favorites, Hi-Fructose Magazine. Here is a great quote that I LOVE from Lainya Magana from Hi-Fructose about Fosik's work!
"They are masterfully made beautiful objects that examine the nature of spiritual iconography through an absence of religious discourse. In this way, Fosik points to the power and scope of man’s innate creativity devoid of divine inspiration.”
