There are so many elements of this series that I love....where do I begin!? Diane Meyer is an artist based out of Santa Monica, CA who uses elements of collage in her work. First off, I have to give props to all of the women artists out there that are reclaiming traditional "feminine" crafts, such as embroidery. I have such a soft spot for any use of fabric and sewing in an artist's work! Meyer's ingenious use of embroidery in her series titled Berlin forms a strange, almost pixeled illusion of where the Berlin wall used to be. The ghost-like wall that is created in this series reminds me of a hazy memory--a memory of a divided city! Embroidery, photography, and a little bit of Berlin history...some of my favorite things! Oh, Berlin, my favorite city in the world. If you every want to visit an amazing and morphing city with a monument on every corner, I highly recommend Berlin!
